With floral kissing balls decorating the aisle and the waters of Door County as a backdrop, this Door County Real Wedding’s outdoor venue sets the stage for a lovely wedding. And, the cascading centerpieces at the reception are truly spectacular.
From the Bride . . . Despite growing up in Wisconsin, I had never visited Door County before meeting my husband. I kept hearing from him and his family how spectacular it was, and we finally visited there one summer weekend. From the amazing water views to the unique shopping, I loved the special Door County experience. When my husband proposed, I instantly knew where I wanted to have my dream wedding.
At the time of our engagement my husband and I were living in Chicago. While the big city has a wealth of options, it could not provide the unique magic of Door County. Since our families would have to travel anyway, we thought: “Why not give them a destination wedding that was still within driving distance?” When we started seriously looking at venues and services in the area, we also found that Door County represented a great value, especially compared to those big city prices!
We had some specific ideas for our wedding but definitely needed some assistance in turning those dreams into reality. Fortunately someone recommended the lovely ladies at Sash & Bow in Green Bay. Though not located in Door County, Allison and Melissa have vast experience pulling off amazing weddings up and down the peninsula. They provided flexible and affordable options and helped us with such details as lighting, linens, programs, and other questions we didn’t even know to ask! We opted to have a planner with us on the day of the wedding, and Melissa went above and beyond. From calming my nerves throughout the day to cleaning up our hotel room at the end of the night, we could not have asked for anything more!
Perhaps the most important detail for us was the flowers, so finding someone we could trust with successfully producing our vision was nerve racking. Amazingly, Jerad at Buds ‘n Blooms in Green Bay fulfilled our dreams and even surpassed them! He listened to our ideas and respected what we had to say while injecting his own experience and flair. The result was a spectacle that everyone is still raving about!
Another vital element was the photography, and we didn’t have to look outside of Door County for the perfect choice. Tammy Lutze (Art of Exposure) provided such exceptional service that we are still using her for our photography needs. She was able to not only capture the emotion of the day in her pictures but really helped to organize the chaos of our wedding day. Though we only had a limited time after the ceremony and before the reception, Tammy provided some fabulous options for the style of photos we wanted, and the results speak for themselves!
We chose Stone Harbor Resort in Sturgeon Bay to provide our guests with the best of both worlds: a spectacular waterfront setting combined with all of the modern conveniences. The adjacent lawn was the perfect setting for our ceremony while the ballroom afforded a wonderful backdrop for our ideas to come into being. Stone Harbor made our day run surprisingly smoothly, from the attentive service to the sumptuous cuisine. An elegant and delicious cake from Cake Designs by JoAnn (Algoma) and music from Heritage String Quartet (Green Bay) also helped to make our wedding dreams come true. Door County certainly provides an amazing setting, and with help from our vendors, we wouldn’t have wanted to be married anywhere else!
